Inside The Creative Process With Our Head Of Creative

Go behind the scenes of our August Collection with our Head of Creative, Lisa. Discover the inspiration behind the collection, the pieces she's loving this season and a glimpse into what a typical day on set looks like.

Blonde model smiling and wearing blue trousers and a denim shirt layered over a white top.

What does a typical day on shoot look like for you?

I’m up early for a run to prepare myself for the day ahead. Then I make sure everyone has breakfast whilst the model is in hair and makeup. I run through the order of the shots and make a plan with the photographer for the best time of day to use the different areas of the location. We shoot only with daylight, so the order of the shoot is largely dictated by the sunlight! A lot of time is spent on the details making the sure the whole look is just right to show our fab products to the standard they deserve. The days are long and exhausting but always worth it for a great shot.

Can you talk us through the creative vision for our August Collection?

With the new season colour story it was important to move away from the high summer locations, but the pretty, neutral story really needed to stay light and airy so we tried to shoot as much as possible outside. However, we were in England in Spring, so if you spot the model looking a bit windswept it’s possibly not intentional and we might all have been under an umbrella! I am always trying to imagine what the Bella customer would be doing in our clothes and bringing that idea to life, helped by using beautiful locations here and abroad.

What location has been your favourite for photoshoots?

Tough call between Puglia and Cape Town - the light in both places is magical.

If you had to choose one must-have piece from the August collection, what would it be and why?

It would have to be the Giovanna Denim Shirt because it’s simple yet feminine and great for layering as the weather changes.

What fashion trends are you most excited about this season and are there any pieces in the collection that reflect it?

Wide leg trousers. They may not be brand new for the season but I love the ease of them and we now have more than ever. So many different styles, colours and fabrics to choose from. My absolute favourite is the Jenny Wider Leg Trouser as the fabric is really high quality, but jersey, so it’s super comfy. Plus, I am tall, so they finish at my ankle which is a modern look, but I much prefer it (especially for rainy days!)
